Log drums (or Krins, slit drums...) are directly-struck idiophones. Instruments of this kind, based on the same vibrating, hollow body principle, have been created in various parts of the world: Africa, Malaysia, Aztec America, the Philippines, Polynesia... It seems each civilization has its own version of the slit drum.
Depending on the period and region, they differ in size, shape and cultural function. Aztecs used them to accompany dances and spoken poetry in religious rituals whereas in other regions, they were used as a long-distance, communication means. In ancient civilizations, they were often considered to have magical powers.
Log drums were German manufacturer Schlagwerk's first activity. Nowadays, their quality bears witness to 25 years of experience in terms of material selection, tuning and finishing.
These instruments and their warm tones should fulfil any musician's desire, wether they be be a professional percussionist, a musicotherapeutist or a musician accompanying a storyteller.
A top-of-the-range, versatile instrument, tuned in pentatonic F.
