On a berimbau, the gourd is used as a resonator of the string's vibration, when struck by the stick.
There are two holes on the upper part of the gourd to slip a piece of twine into it and use it to fix it to the lower part of the bow.
The higher the gourd is positioned on the bow, the higher-pitched the berimbau is tuned.
Still, the gourd has to remain on the lower half of the bow.
In order to produce bass sounds, the player should use a large gourd, its size being proportional to the height of the desired sound range.
These models from Contemporãnea are professional quality gourds.
NB: gourds are by definition all different in size and colour. please contact us for more details and stock availability.

No choice of dimensions on the site. Nice gourd but the inside has not been "burned", like for professional gourds (better resonance and sturdier gourd). (Translated review)
These gourds are made by artisans from whom Contemporanea purchases these accessories. Many "professionals" do not necessarily burn the gourds. It is not mandatory to do so. In 26 years we have seen that many professionals did not have a "burned" gourd for their berimbau.
My son was very pleased with his gourd. I had been delivered quickly. (Translated review)
