A caxixi (pron. Cah-shee-shee) is a percussion instrument (shaken idiophone). It consists of a small wicker-type basket with a flat-bottom, partly filled with seeds or small stones. In Capoeira music, the caxixi is played along with the berimbau, shaken by the hand that holds a thin stick, too.
It is found across Africa and in Brazil.
This particular model was made by Contemporanea in accordance with traditional making rules. It can either be used as a berimbau accessory, or as a shaker, together with any type of percussion or sound-effect accessory. This model is relatively small (and thus, easy to play), though it remains as loud as necessary.
