This güiro shaker is made of mahogani wood, which makes it a very sturdy instrument as well as a nice-sounding item of a percussion set.
There is a strong linkage between this percussion instrument of the scraped idiophone family and musical traditions from Central America, Caribbean to Porto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
It is played by scraping its upper, grooved part with a thin stick, or by striking its shell. Characteristic of such famous rhythms as Son and Salsa, its distinctive sound and insistent patterns remind cricket chirping.
This model can also be used as shaker.

worm-eaten instrument and unstuck tip with pearl leakage, too bad (Translated review)
Very good guiro, good hold in the hand despite the absence of holes, beautiful real wood aspect. Question shaker.... I would be more reserved, but I did not choose it for that. (Translated review)
