The Ganzá is a simple percussion instrument, a shaker consisting of one or several hollow, aluminium cylinders, partly filled with sand, tiny metal balls or dried seeds.

In Samba bands, Ganzas play a “continuum” phrase, that is, a repetitive pattern, following a constant to and fro motion, emphasizing the main beat for others to pick out easily.

The small, double model has a richer tone than a simple's though remains quite light, which makes long or quick-paced acompaniment sessions easier.,
