Karillan (pron. "karheeian")
Grooved metal cylinder rubbed with a metal rod. This percussion instrument is traditionally played by South Malian hunters and also by women in and to accompany singing. You can hear it, for instance, on Soungalo Coulibaly’s albums.
Sometimes, the musician slips a thin string into the two small holes located on the back side of the instrument and places his/her thumb to get a better hold of it.
The percussion-sets of western percussionists often include a karillan nowadays.
Length: 11"

Of very beautiful manufacture. An instrument of accompaniments with a very correct quality-price ratio and a fast delivery. (Translated review)
