A percussion instrument of the idiophones family, it consists of a single moulded piece of material, in the shape of a narrow necked, vase-like pot, with a circular hole in the side and an opening at the top. The Udu drum is present in more than one continent and has a variety of shapes and methods of making and playing. It is used in very different musical environments, from traditional forms to vanguard Jazz. Originally from Niger, its name means "bottle" in the local idiom.

This udu model is made in Germany by Schlagwerk. It produces both sharp, clear slap tones and deep bass sounds. Also, by rubbing the body of the instrument, you will get an interesting rustling, close to the sound of brushes on on snare drum.
