A percussion instrument of the idiophones family, it is made entirely of clay, in the form of a narrow necked, vase-like pot, with a circular hole in the side and an opening at the top. The Udu drum is present in more than one continent and has a variety of shapes, methods of making and playing. It is used in very different musical environments, from traditional forms to vanguard Jazz. Originally from , its name means "bottle" in the local idiom.
Made in Spain, this model owes its sound quality to very high-temperature firing. Its medium sounds are particularly good. Its size makes it a convenient instrument, easy to handle, especilally in a multi-percussion set.
