Pair of large, metal, castanet-like musical instruments which are the primary rhythmic component of gnawa music, a distinctive, Southern Moroccan religious and musical tradition.

Along the melodies of the gimbri (low-pitched, leather-string traditional kind of guitar), sometimes accompanied by a tbal (drum), this pair of wrought iron pliers plays a continuous, trance arousing rhythmical pattern, as a background to litany singing. The player handled by placing his/her thumbs inside a leather-string loop.
Hand made in Marrakesh by experienced craftsmen.
