Originally, this instrument was a solid piece of hard wood that was notched and scraped with a bamboo stick.
Nowadays, the most common type of reco-reco consists of a long (about 12 x 2 x 2 in), metal “box” (opened at both ends) topped by parallel metal springs.
The springs are firmly screwed onto the box-like body. The player scrapes them with a metal rod, holding the body with the other hand.
