Set of 3 flat dununba/sanbang/kenkeni bells (3 different sizes)
These 3 wrought iron bells made in Burkina correspond to the 3 drums. The patterns played on the bells insert and fill in intervals between drum beats.
Such african bells are hit with a metal rod, ring or, less often a wooden stick.
They can have different forms, sizes and names, depending on the region.
They usually come in 3-piece sets:
- a small one for the kenkeni (about 5 in long and 2.5 in wide at its widest end)
- a middle-sized for sangban (about 6 in long and 3 in wide at its widest end)
- a large one for the dundunba (about 8 in long and 3.5 in wide at its widest end)
The bell’s sound is frequently muffled with thick adhesive tape. It may be used as a hand-percussion, too.
The set of 3 flat bells is delivered with 3 metal sticks to allow simultaneous playing of different bells.
