Pandeiro is considered by many the Brazilian national music instrument. A short-shell frame drum with jingles, this quite sophisticated instrument allows the player a number of different sounds. Pandeiro playing involves both hands: the one holds the instrument firmly, possibly giving it a swinging movement, while the other hits it in various distinctive ways. Hitting the outer part of the head with the thumb gives a low note while slaps on its central part produces a dry, loud impact. As for the jingles, they add a crisp touch to the instrument’s overall range.
The pandeiro is played throughout Brazil in various types of music: Samba, choro, forró, “regional”… A good pandeiro player is supposed to be able to imitate all sounds of a drum band (from very low to very high-pitched)
This model is equipped with a double, nylon, holographic drumhead with Brazilian flag design, specially made for small, modern samba bands (“pagode”). Its sound is loud, dry and bright. Its convenient handle gives it a firm grip.
