The Bendir is a traditional frame drum used throughout North Africa. Its shell is made of (very light) acacia wood and its head, of (very tight) goat- or plastic skin. It is generally equipped with a snare (made of gut) stretched across its head, which gives the instrument a distinctive buzzing sound when the hand hits the skin.
This model is a genuine, adjustable Bendir with plastic head, made in Fès, by experienced craftsmen.
Larger than the goatskin Bendir, it is also more powerful, and you can tune it with a spanner. You can play it in open air and in wet conditions, without fearing it tension loss.
