Hmong jew’s harp – triple gash (Vietnam)

Hmong jew’s harps are made in Northern Vietnam; they have been played in traditional music for many years.

It consists of a strip of brass in which a thin central blade has been partially cut so that it can vibrate freely. This making process is a precise, delicate one that demands experienced craftsmanship.

This model’s special feature is its triple gash

The instrument is held gently against the player's lips while his/her other hand plucks the tip of the reed back and forth in a soft movement.

As a trible jew’s harp, it is lower pitched than others, but its sound quality remains very bright and it is louder. This is an easy instrument to play that gives full satisfaction to both beginners and more advanced musicians who seek for high quality instruments.

I love this Jew's harp, the bass sound is magic (Translated review)

Strumento ben fatto, mi manca solo un po' di riverbero (Translated review)

The single &quotsimple&quot jaw harps are perfect. The double and triple Jew's harps are less well cut (for the metal part), with even a missing tip of the vibrating part for one of them (but this does not prevent the Jew's harp to vibrate well). The double and triple jew's harps also catch on the inside of their nice cases, which are too narrow: we manage to take them out but it's not practical (but well, it's not so bad either). As a gift my shipment also contained an extra object, looking like a jew's harp but not vibrating. (Translated review)

The instrument itself is fine but the finish leaves something to be desired, but a little fine polishing with 1000 or 1200 grit can remedy the problem. I may recommend a double one that I find more resonant. (Translated review)

The Jew's harp is of good manufacture, the sound is good and to have bought some elsewhere I never met this quality. (Translated review)

Difficult to handle: sharp metal edges (Translated review)
