The Garrahand is an innovative instrument which results and benefits from the Caribean steel drum and the Swiss Hang experiences. It is a relative of such melodic percussions as Hapi Drum, Tongue Drum or Spacedrum.
The Garrahand's various, distinctive features make it a unique instrument :

- It can be played with bare hands (no special sticks needed) although it can also be played with sticks without any risks, thanks to the extra resistant steel it is made of. So you can switch from a very gentle, lilting sound (finger playing) to a more percussive kind of playing, with more attack.

- It is an electroacoustic instrument, with a carefully designed amplifying system, involving first-class technology with amazing success. Therefore, it can easily be used in live band environments, whatever the size. The microphone output is a standard 1/4" jack with high impedance and there is an extra XLR output to plug the instrument directly into a multitrack mixing table, effect pedals or a digital sampler.

- Playing technique is very simple. Any person can play complex phrases after a couple of hours of training, by mere intuition. Garrahand is aimed at any type of musician: percussionists, DJs, vibraphone players, drummers... It can easily be fixed to a cymbal stand, adding a melodic instrument to a percussion set. But it is also a flexible instrument : each tongue (note) is independantly tunable, so that the player can make up its own scale and adapt to the particularly key of any musical piece.
