The pandeiro is the most typical instrument of Brazil. Initially used in samba and choro, it can easily integrate into funk, reggae or drum 'n bass patterns. This is the point (brilliantly) made by Marcos Suzano, a legendary innovative creator of new ways of playing pandeiro, in a complete, 140-minute lesson.
In addition to transmitting the bases of traditional playing, book provides Marcos Suzano's own approach and the modern variations he developed, demonstrating the huge possibilities offered by the bare instrument as well as some extra ones, using a microphone or effect-pedals.
This DVD is aimed at all pandeiro players of any level. Beginners can learn basic skills while more experienced players will appreciate to integrate new patterns to their repertoire, adapted to virtually any style of music. Each rhythm is clearly transcribed in a very efficiently-made booklet accompanying the DVD.
Studied patterns:
Baiãozinho / Congada, Baião, Coco, Maracatú, Ciranda, Congo, Ilú, ijexá, Aguer, Ibi, Aluja, Jongo, Samba / Choro, Partido Alto, Frevo, Afro Latino, Quadrilha mas Além, Reggae, Funk, Samba Funk, Batucada / Congo, Jungle, Drum 'n Bass.
Extras:
The electric pandeiro. Performance with Marcos Suzano, Bernardo Aguiar and João Hermeto.

Excellent method, a very nice vision of the pandeiro, all in Brazilian language (subtitled of course in different languages), clear explanations on the different toques and use of the fingers, as well as on the different existing rhythms, both in the traditional method and in more modern methods. A real treat! It also allowed me to correct certain postures and ways of "tapping" on the pandeiro, and to understand that the skin of the pandeiro has several parts on which it is necessary to tap in alternation high-low or low-high, while always locating the first beat. He also emphasizes regular practice, a quarter to half an hour every day in order to build the "horn" under the fingers. I recommend it. (Translated review)
