Third volume of a series dedicated to world music rhythms, “Rythmes en stock : Caraïbes” follows the same principle: offering a musical travel inside a particular culture through a serious, accessible pedagogical process.
Olivier Noclin, the series’ artistic director, ordered Caribbean artist Yosvany Quiros and French specialist “Yaki” five original compositions to be used as a self study course for percussion-playing.

The book does not focus on one instrument only but tackles the set of percussion instruments most commonly used in Caribbean music: clave, maracas, campana, guiro, shekere, bongo, conga, bata, timbales.

Through a large number of instructive photographs and texts, the tutor describes playing techniques and analyzes traditional patterns. It offers some useful material to get familiar with several Caribbean musical styles; the accompanying cd includes playback tracks to practice along, as well as piano scores (in PDF format) to introduce learners to orchestral performance.
